Extremely honest, pragmatic and enlightening book on how to effectively understand and use cloud computing and services.

It's difficult finding truly objective, realistic advice on all things “cloud” but the author has done an excellent job of doing just that. After the first few chapters it became obvious the author had extensive experience within corporate IT and not just startups. That is a critical piece for those in corporate IT environments where advice on the cloud usually comes from pundits, vendors wanting to sell their solutions and others, far-removed from the reality of the challenges that enterprise IT shops face. There is no technology or vendor bias in the book and although the author has a lot of experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) he does not try and sell it for all your solutions.

The book takes you through a roadmap and foundational concepts about how to approach your applications and their launch and implementation in the cloud; whether you are in enterprise IT or a “hip greenfield startup”. Some of the concepts are available in other places but you will be hard pressed to find a more concise and ordered guide. The author also provides lots of references to other information throughout the chapters.

There are a lot of concepts covered including API's, Cloud Types, DevOps, Security and Compliance; as well as their impacts on your organization. A great reference to have for when delving into or starting enterprise IT cloud projects. I highly recommend reading it.

Good information, but same as previous editions

This books offers a good overview of feature writing for both magazines and newspapers. However, when I compared the first edition of this text (1988) with the current 4th edition, I noticed very little difference, other than a huge price increase. Some of the book has been updated, but the sections that are aren't too relevant or useful. Thus, if you have the original edition of this otherwise fine text, don't bother to buy the newer version--it's nearly identical.

Bob knows his subject-cars-undoubtedly very well and there can be NO argument that our corporate fascination with bean counters and their methods is troublesome for the auto and other manufacturing enterprises. However, when he ventures aside from his topic of expertise and proffers his close-minded take on climate change, he loses me and many other readers.

Yes, we all have First Amendment rights to free speech but we should also defer to experts in the respective fields. We acknowledge Bob's expertise in his field but disavow his rather narrow-minded stands on topics like climate change where the science is very well established.

Self annointed saviour of the auto industry.

Lutz must have hurt his arm patting himself on the back. He claims that whatever car company he worked for was in serious trouble until he saved it. He, and he alone, cleared out the deadwood and only he made it a better company. Oh also the elite media and grandstanding elected officials made the problem worse. He admits to no mistakes, casts blame on others and miminizes any residual impact he left behind. less about car guys vs. bean counters and more about the genius car ability of Bob Lutz. he occassionaly lets some interesting information leak out but he spends a lot of time singing his own praises.

A Lefty

I am a somewhat judgmental and stubborn Democrat, but alas I picked up this book. It had me literally laughing out loud and was a wealth of information and facts. It is rare to read something so thought-provoking. Cupp and Joshpe clearly did their homework and did it well. I hope this gets the attention it "rightfully" deserves.

The Right Stuff

As someone who resents the intense polarization and "us-versus-them" mentality in American politics over the past 20 years, I found this book to be a surprisingly refreshing take on some common misconceptions about Republicans. I know too many people who are quick to reflexively attach "labels" to Republicans or Democrats, conservatives or liberals, without having the facts to support their arguments. I didn't think that a book with this subject matter could have me chuckling the whole way through, but it did. I'm betting that it's going to change some skeptical minds. At the very least, it'll improve the "quality" of political debates in coffeeshops across America by injecting more factual accuracy into the mix.

But I am right!

Like the authors of the book,I am a conservative living in New York. I find myself facing the many challenges that are expressed in each chapter. The book wittily addresses each stereo-type. Even if you disagree with right winged political beliefs- this book will make you laugh and maybe even remind you of somebody you know.

This is a great read for anybody and I recommend it to all!

Good and simple book!!!!

The Habit of Winning is not a seminal work nor is it an earth shaking management classic. It is a cleanly written, easy to read, attractively packaged affordable paperback which will appeal to the common man looking for a tip or two for self improvement. There is no laundry list of dos and don’ts, there is no moral lecturing, there is no pontificating – the author imparts his message through stories. And, mind you, most of these are contemporary real life stories which you can relate with these and not teaching stories or inspirational gems of ancient wisdom, parables or fables, except for a few familiar ones like The Water Bearer, The Cracked Pot and Making a Difference, The Starfish Way.
The author talks about mental barriers. He cites Robin Sharma's allusion to the invisible barriers. It takes a long time to break a record. But once broken several others start surpassing the benchmark in quick succession.
I also liked - The story of two earthen pots, the 1 degree extra attitude, the way mixing of sugar in milk has been compared with having an impact on the team by a good leader. I am not elaborating on that because that will be a spoiler.
There is a strong emphasis on giving. A cow and dog have been used as metaphors to symbolize giving and taking mentality. Cow always gives - milk, manures, leather and other useful things and dog always snatches, fights for territory, food, bones etc.
The book is very readable. The chapters are short, just one story per chapter, and end with a message encapsulating the gist of the story. A good pick me up, you can open any page, start reading anywhere, and finish a chapter in a couple of minutes, this book is an ideal companion while travelling or waiting or just about anywhere.
The meat of the book is not in the middle, but right at the beginning in Part I – VISION AND GOALS in which I particularly liked the chapter DON’T CHANGE YOUR HABIT that emphasizes the importance of focus which I feel is most relevant today where you are surrounded by an environment of distractions and multitasking. I will not tell you any more about the stories in the book – those you must read and enjoy yourself.

A good read. One wouldn't be disappointed after reading it. The writer has tried to bring home the point he is making thro' real life snippets.
One more thing, buy it thro' kindle store, that's the cheapest option.

I suggest not to buy this book, if you like serious and inspiring read

This book is meant for small children. The so called inspiring stories are so shallow that you can't get inspired by them. I didnt like the book may be because I have much expectations from it when i bought it. The stories are very short (just 2-3 pages) mainly are fictions (like is esop's fables where aminals talk) and small (very small can be treated as trivial) incidents in the life of successful people. I suggest not to buy this book, if you like serious and inspiring read.
