So you want to make your veggies happy?

It's definitely a cookbook of its time. The illustrations have a homespun look, and the introduction even makes mention of passing around a joint before dinner "to sharpen gustatory perception". I missed the seventies, personally, but the cheerful hippieness of this book is irresistable.
But what about the darn food?
It's good stuff. Not low-fat, really, but if you compare the olive oil, butter, and eggs called for in these recipes a meal would still balance favorably with the average meat-including diet. My favorite section is the one on curries--having had a lot of real Indian it's not QUITE the same, but it's reasonably close. Given that it was written when supermarkets were less global, I can forgive a few shortcomings in authenticity. She gets the basics across with readily-available ingredients. And every one of the curries is delicious on its own merits. There are sweeter ones, spicier ones, sides, a couple of desserts, and it's impossible to go wrong with any combination of recipes in this section.
Most of her soups and stews are also excellent. The ratatouille in particular is fantastic. However, in place of her potato peel broth or garlic broth I recommend saving a lot of time and effort by starting off with plain water and adding extra seasoning, or by the quick & dirty expedience of a veggie bouillion cube or two. It's okay to cheat.
Perhaps the best thing to bear in mind when using this book is that with a lot of the recipes you'll need either a fair amount of time or a liberal dose of common sense when it comes to cutting corners. The author had a lot of time on her hands, to make broth, clarify butter, and let things simmer for an hour. You probably don't, and neither do I. Use the butter plain. Heck, use margarine. Simmer for 30 minutes. Spice a little more heavily. And use that darn veggie bouillion.
It would be nice if we could all be so relaxed and agrarian about our cooking as the author is. Just reading the book is like taking a deep breath. But alas, most of have day jobs and time constraints. Rest assured that you can still use these recipes and enjoy some absolutely succulent grub.

The Vegetarian Epicure, Books One and Two

I love both of these books. These are not cookbooks for anyone who has never cooked or baked before, but for those of us who have, I find both of them to be invaluable.
I've had both of them for close to 20 years, and I finally had to replace both!
From the first book, I adore the whole wheat bread with the optional onion. And, the herb bread makes *fabulous* stuffing for Thanksgiving if you cube it and dry it out a bit in a low oven. I love the "Dutch Cheese and Potato" soup and the recipe for Tomato Rabbit.
From the second book, my all time favorite is "Menestra de Veduras", or Spanish-style stewed vegetables. It's a *lot* of work, but so worth it. Do try it, especially in the spring when asparagus, peas and artichokes are fresh.
Another favorite of mine is the "melanzana al forno", aka "baked stuffed eggplant. Cook this in the summer when you can get tiny eggplants.
Both of these books are based on one concept - freshness. If you can't buy the best and the finest, change your menu. That's always a good philosophy to cook by, and Anna Thomas consistently emphasizes that concept throughout both of these books.
Just remember, this is *not* low-cal, low-salt, low-fat, no-flavor vegetarian cooking! It's almost vegetarian cooking with a bit of "Julia" tossed in for flavor. The dessert recipes are *to die for*.

When is a reason for doing or believing something a good reason? Over the past century, logic's contribution to answering this question has typically involved finding ''logical forms": that is, using a special notation to bring out logical features more clearly.

The correct identification of logical forms has been held to be important not only to logic but also to philosophy. Bertrand Russell coined the phrase "philosophical logic" to describe an approach to philosophical problems: find the correct logical form of the problematic sentences, and the problems vanish. Logical Forms explains both the theoretical underpinnings of the approach and the detailed problems involved in finding logical forms in the languages of propositional logic, classical first order logic, modal logic, and some alternatives such as free logic, binary and substitutional quantifiers.

This revised edition incorporates results of recent work. Chapter 3 on conditionals, and the sections dealing with predicate quantifiers, free logics and subjunctive conditionals have been completely rewritten. The exercises are integrated throughout the book, and each chapter concludes with updated notes to guide further reading. The result is a genuinely interactive introduction which engages the reader in developing the argument.

This book does not presuppose knowledge of deductive methods in formal logic and it will be of immense benefit to those approaching philosophical logic for the first time.

Over 5,500 M4s were built between 1942 and 1945, with many remaining in service into the 1960s. Created in 1943, this official TM 9-785 Technical Manual reveals a great deal about the M4's design and capabilities. Intended as a manual for those charged with operation and maintenance, this manual shows many aspects of its engine, cooling, power, drive train and other systems. Originally labeled restricted, this manual was declassified long ago and is here reprinted in book form. Care has been taken to preserve the integrity of the text.

I love this book, great introduction to SUSY

I love this book. I had written that there were some sign mistakes, but, it was me who was confused about the signs (as I realize now after being more careful with the signs). I apologize about my previous review. Spinor fields are Grassmann-valued, in Physics (having to do with the spin-statistics theorem). Also when you use the superspace approach, you introduce extra fermionic type coordinates. The reason why these are introduced is that they allow one to work with commutators, instead of anticommutators, the former being more familiar (from the theory of Lie algebras).

Back to the book, I think it is a great place for mathematicians and physicists to start, in order to understand supersymmetry. The book focuses on d=4 and N=1, which is perfect to start. The book is rather mathematical, in character. Some might complain that it is perhaps too formal, but I feel that without knowing how the yoga of supersymmetry works, in detail, it is probably difficult, if not impossible, to get a sound understanding of this concept.

In all, I highly recommend this book, although it would be also useful to simultaneously look at some other sources. Arxiv contains several good introductions to supersymmetry for instance. I believe it is wise to also look at these more recent sources simultaneously.

Classic intro to SUSY

This book is the classic introduction to superfields. It is very elegant an formal, and appeals to the more mathematically minded particle physics student. It contains almost nothing on phenomenological applications of supersymmetry, and keeps it's hands clean by avoiding messy but important topics, such as regularization of supersymmetric gauge theories.

Necessary but not sufficient

This is one of those books that is still around because
it fills a niche that no modern book has been able
to fill. It introduces N=1 susy quickly and concisely.
The reader must work through every equation in order
to get something out of this book. The reason why people
continue to use this book of equations is because the
equations are right. If you try other books, they are
filled with typos and sometimes even more serious errors.
Get through the first 8 chapters of this book
may be chapter 22 and 24 then get into Argyres' notes
that delve into the modern aspects of supersymmetric
quantum field theory.

Meets expectations

I had reservations about this edition having the same content but it turned out to be the same. Only drawback is the pics are not in color. This paperback version is otherwise fine for entry welding class use.

The best bible available today.

Dr. Morris has provided us with 50+ years of bible study in his notes, and does so by NEVER stating "I feel" or "in my opinion". He ALWAYS uses Scripture to verify Scripture. This is also the only Bible that has notes that stand on a 6-day, 24-hour creation period, AS GOD STATES, A N D is the ONLY bible where you will have notes that explain that Behemoth in Job 40 is indeed a dinosaur. Every other publisher gives in to the lie of Evolution and describes that as an elephant or hippo... please, with the "tail of a cedar"?
Dr. Morris is a very godly Christian man who has dedicated his life to the accuracy and perfectness of Scripture. The notes in the Defender's Bible will make ANYONE have a truer understanding with the difficult passages of Scripture, and even have their questions answered, such as "Where did Cain get his wife?" and "How do the Dinosaurs fit in with the Bible?", plus the truth about fossils, Carbon 14 dating, the Grand Canyon (result of the Flood), etc.
The Bible text is the best: the robust, accurate King James. There are 18 appendices that fill in scientific data as well. An ABSOLUTE must-have.

This is an excellent Study Bible! It has plenty of notes dealing with Creation as well as a wide variety of other important topics. It supports literal Biblical Creationism and follows a literal approach to all of the Bible!

Outstanding

This is the second best Bible I have ever read (the best is the New Defender's Study Bible). I've read three types of NIV's, the NASB, the Holman Christian Study Bible, the Net Bible and others cover to cover. This is the King James Version (KJV) with notes by Dr. Henry Morris. Dr. Morris is incredibly visionary and helpful about many things and is likely correct on most issues. This is a must read for any student of the Bible.
